Students will design and construct art works from clay to create a process portfolio (which will include a collection of finished art works, self-evaluations, idea sketches, handouts, notes and critiques). They will study ceramic art history, the elements and principles of design, critiquing, and aesthetics (the appreciation of beauty). Student activities using clay will include hand building, throwing, decorative techniques, and special clay processes. An overview of related health hazards will also be included. Students must be able to duns approximately $15-$20 for a studio fee as will as other supplies required by the teacher.

In Ceramics 2, 3, and 4, students will work on increasingly more individual and independent designing and construction of clay projects ,as will as learning and practicing more advanced techniques for clay construction, glazing, and decorating.

Prerequisites:
Ceramic 2: successful completion of Ceramic 1
Ceramic 3: successful completion of Ceramic 2
Ceramic 4: successful completion of Ceramic 3
